Rita LaPorte

Präsidentin der "Daughters of Bilitis" in den USA ab August 1968. Im Zusammenhang mit der Publikation von "The Ladder" bzw. dessen Ende hatte sie eine umstrittene Rolle inne.

Biografie

Sie besuchte 1937/38 die Internationale Schule in Genf. In dieser Zeit habe sie realisiert, dass sie lesbisch sei. (Aus einem Brief aus dem Nachlass von Margrit Bernhard)
The leadership of Rita Laporte and Barbara Grier in DOB brought a considerably more radical lesbian-feminist flavor to the organization. In 1970, the national mailing list for The Ladder was stolen from the DOB’s San Francisco office by Rita Laporte. Laporte, a former member of the DOB, began publishing issues of The Ladder with a new team, without support of the DOB.
